I’m currently an intern in one of the research centers in my university. After my first day, I wanted to resign right away. Come on, I needed to complete 50 hrs a month for 3 months in order to complete the program. An internship isn’t even a requirement for graduation, I just wanted to try it out.
After my 3rd day interning, I started to look forward to going to the center. The atmosphere is really fun and I get to join in on round table discussions on reviewing submitted working papers. It makes me feel so “academic”.
It’s not one of those internships where the staff ask you to go on coffee runs, make copies and all that. I actually get to assist a researcher in data gathering for her current study. I get to make transcriptions of interviews and forums. And I get to attend academic writing forums without going through the selection process ‘cause I help out in organizing the event sponsored by the center.
Hmm. I just described my internship at a research center as “fun”. Woah, I am one geeky girl.
